A new coalition has been launched between the renewable energy and data centre industries
The Renewable Energy Association (REA) has launched The Data Centre Coalition to develop funding models and provide evidence to regulators and the government.
The coalition also aims to design an integrated national framework for planning for green electricity to power data centres.
Speakers at the coalition's launch event in London highlighted that long grid queues, slow planning, and concern around environmental impacts risk slowing delivery.
REA Chief Executive Trevor Hutchings said: “The UK is in a global race to secure data centre investment, and to meet the sector’s rapidly growing energy demand alongside addressing wider sustainability challenges.”
